Professional Driveway Cleaning That Actually Works

If your driveway looks like it's seen better days, you're not alone. Concrete and asphalt driveways in Boise take a beating year after year from motor oil drips, tire rubber transfer, road salt tracking, hard-water runoff, and Idaho's notorious freeze-thaw weather cycles. Standard garden hoses and consumer-grade pressure washers don't have the water temperature, pressure, or the right detergent chemistry to tackle the stuff that's really baked in. That's where we come in.

At Pressure Wash Boise, driveway cleaning is one of our most-requested services. We use commercial hot-water pressure washing equipment paired with professional-grade degreasers to break down oil, grease, algae, rust, and biological growth at the source. The results are dramatic. Most customers are genuinely surprised at the color difference once the surface dries out.

Types of Driveways We Clean

We work on all common residential and commercial driveway surfaces in the Treasure Valley:

What We Remove

A driveway collects a remarkable variety of stains and contaminants over the years. Here is what we deal with most often:

How Boise Winters Damage and Dirty Your Driveway

Boise sits in a climate zone where temperatures drop below freezing regularly from November through March, then swing back above freezing during the day. That freeze-thaw cycle is rough on concrete and asphalt. Water seeps into micro-cracks in the surface, freezes and expands, then contracts as it thaws. Over multiple seasons this process widens cracks and creates surface spalling. The same freeze-thaw action works on embedded oil and organic material, pushing it further into the porous surface.

Spring is the most popular time for driveway cleaning in Boise because of exactly this -- the winter leaves behind road salt residue, sand from city trucks, tracked-in mud, and surface contaminants that have worked their way in during the cold months. Cleaning in spring removes that accumulated grime before it has a full season to set and allows you to see clearly what condition the surface is in heading into summer.

Fall cleanings before the first freeze are also a smart move. A clean driveway going into winter means fewer contaminants trapped under ice and snow for months at a time.

Our Driveway Cleaning Process

We don't just point a pressure washer and hope for the best. Every driveway job follows the same structured process:

1

Surface Inspection

We walk the driveway before touching anything. We identify heavy oil zones, rust spots, cracks, and surface type. This tells us which detergents to apply and what pressure settings to use.

2

Degreaser Pre-Treatment

Oil stains and heavy grease zones get a targeted application of commercial degreaser. We let it dwell for several minutes to break the bond between the oil and the concrete pores before washing starts.

3

Hot-Water Pressure Wash

We run the full surface with our commercial hot-water pressure washer, working in methodical overlapping passes. Hot water is significantly more effective at removing organics and oil than cold water at the same PSI.

4

Surface Rinse

We rinse off all detergent residue and flushed-out grime, directing water away from landscaping and toward appropriate drainage. The driveway is left clean and free of soap residue.

Oil Stain Removal -- What to Expect

We get asked about oil stains more than anything else. Here is the honest answer: professional hot-water pressure washing with degreaser pre-treatment removes the vast majority of oil staining and dramatically improves the appearance of even severe stains. Very old, deeply set oil stains -- especially on older, more porous concrete -- may lighten significantly without disappearing completely. We will tell you upfront what we think is achievable on your specific driveway before we start.

What we can tell you is that our results are far better than what any consumer-grade machine or DIY degreaser can accomplish, because the water temperature and professional detergent concentration we use are not available in retail products.

Driveway Cleaning Questions -- Answered

1. How much does driveway cleaning cost in Boise?

Most residential driveways in Boise run between $100 and $250 depending on size, surface type, and the severity of staining. A standard two-car concrete driveway with moderate grime lands in the lower part of that range. Heavy oil staining or specialty surfaces like pavers or stamped concrete will push the price higher. We give free quotes so you know the exact number before we show up.

2. Can pressure washing remove oil stains from a driveway?

Yes, with the right process. We pre-treat oil stains with a commercial hot-alkaline degreaser before washing, which breaks down the oil at a chemical level rather than just blasting the surface with water. Most oil stains are dramatically reduced or eliminated entirely. Very old, deeply penetrated stains on porous concrete may lighten without disappearing completely -- we will tell you what to expect before we start.

3. How long does it take to pressure wash a driveway?

A standard two-car residential driveway takes between 45 minutes and two hours from start to finish. That includes inspection, pre-treatment dwell time, washing, and rinsing. Larger driveways, heavily stained surfaces, or driveways with pavers and decorative features will take longer. We can give you a time estimate along with the price quote.

4. Will pressure washing damage my concrete driveway?

Not when done correctly. Damage from pressure washing almost always comes from using too-high pressure at too-close a range, or using a zero-degree nozzle that concentrates water into a single cutting line. We use appropriate fan nozzles, keep our distance calibrated to the surface condition, and adjust pressure for the material we're working on. Concrete that is already severely cracked or spalling may look slightly worse after cleaning simply because cleaning reveals what was already there.

5. What is the best way to clean a driveway?

Commercial hot-water pressure washing combined with the right pre-treatment detergents is the most effective method available. Cold-water consumer machines clean surface dirt reasonably well but cannot break down embedded oil or kill organic growth effectively. For best results on a residential driveway, professional cleaning every one to two years outperforms any combination of DIY washing and consumer products.

6. Can you clean asphalt driveways?

Yes. Asphalt requires lower pressure and a bit more care than concrete because the surface binder can be disrupted by very high PSI at close range. We dial down the pressure, use warm rather than scalding water, and work at the correct standoff distance. Cleaned correctly, asphalt driveways come out looking significantly better without any surface damage. Many customers are surprised how much grime has built up on their asphalt over the years.

7. How often should you pressure wash a driveway?

For most Boise homeowners, once a year is the sweet spot -- either in spring after winter grime accumulation or in fall before the freeze season. If you park multiple vehicles and deal with regular oil drips, or if your driveway is in a shaded area prone to algae growth, twice a year makes sense. Annual cleaning prevents stains from becoming permanent and keeps the surface in better condition overall over time.

8. Do you clean pavers and stamped concrete?

We do. Both surfaces require adjusted technique compared to plain concrete. For pavers, we pay attention to the joints and use lower fan-spread nozzles to avoid blasting out joint sand. For stamped concrete, we work at an angle that cleans inside the pattern grooves without flattening the stamped texture. If you have a sealant on your stamped concrete, let us know -- we will use pressure and temperature that cleans without stripping the sealant.

9. Can you remove rust stains from a driveway?

Rust stains need a different approach than oil or general grime. We use an oxalic-acid-based treatment specifically for rust removal, which reacts with and dissolves iron oxide without etching the concrete. Standard pressure washing alone does not remove rust -- it takes the right chemistry. Results depend on how deep the rust has penetrated, but the improvement is usually very noticeable.

10. Will driveway cleaning remove tire marks?

In most cases, yes. Tire marks are rubber residue deposited on the surface from hard stops or sharp turns on a hot driveway. Our hot-water wash combined with a surfactant degreaser lifts the rubber from the surface very effectively. Marks that have been baked in for years or are on rougher concrete that gives them more surface area to grip may require a second pass or concentrated spot treatment.

11. Do I need to move my car before you arrive?

Yes, please have any vehicles moved off the driveway before we start. We need clear access to the entire surface to do a thorough, even clean. If there are areas we cannot reach because a vehicle is parked, those spots will look obviously different from the rest of the driveway when we're done. Letting us know the day before is always appreciated so we can plan the job start time.

12. How long should I stay off the driveway after cleaning?

The surface will be wet immediately after we finish, and concrete especially can be slippery while wet. We recommend staying off it for 30 to 60 minutes or until it has dried. For foot traffic that's usually fine within an hour. For parking vehicles, giving it a full hour to dry completely is ideal so you don't drag tire marks back across a freshly cleaned surface.

13. Does pressure washing seal the driveway too?

Pressure washing cleans the surface but does not apply any sealant. Sealing is a separate service that involves applying a protective coating after the surface has dried from cleaning. We do recommend sealing after cleaning because the open, clean pores in concrete absorb sealer much more effectively, and a good sealer significantly extends the time before the driveway needs professional cleaning again. Ask us about sealing when you call for a quote.

14. Can driveway cleaning damage landscaping nearby?

Detergent runoff is the main concern. We are careful to direct rinse water away from planting beds and use biodegradable, plant-safe detergents wherever possible. If you have delicate plants right along the driveway edge, let us know when we arrive and we will take extra care in those areas. We do not leave behind runoff pooling on the lawn or in beds when the job is complete.

15. Do you offer driveway cleaning in Meridian and Eagle?

Yes. We serve the full Treasure Valley including Meridian, Eagle, Nampa, and Garden City in addition to Boise. We are a local crew based here, not a franchise dispatching from out of area. If you are in Meridian or Eagle, call us for a quote -- there is no travel surcharge for locations within our normal service area.
